Library Expansion/Renovation

The Longwood Public Library is endeavoring to expand and renovate our facility, built in 1987. Two Community Forums were held in 2007 and 2008 to explore the future needs of the library.  An Existing Conditions Report was prepared by Sandpebble Builders in March 2011. In the spring of 2011, the Library formed a Building Committee composed of staff, trustees, and Friends of the Library. Two charrettes were held in the summer of 2011 to seek input from the Longwood community. A Building Program was prepared by Aaron and Alex Cohen, library planning consultants. A design team including Peter Gisolfi Associates as architects and Strunk\Albert Engineers was selected in August 2011. The design team met through the fall of 2011 to develop a schematic design for the project.  That design was presented to the Library Board of Trustees in March 2012.  The environmental consulting firm of Nelson, Pope, and Voorhis prepared an Expanded Environmental Assessment Form which was circulated to involved agencies from June to August 2012.  On August 13, 2012, the Library Board made a determination of non-significance and requested that the Longwood School Board authorize a special meeting to hold a bond referendum vote on Tuesday, October 9 for the purpose of renovating and expanding the Longwood Public Library.

An information meeting was held at the library on Tuesday, October 2, 2012 at 7pm.  Click here for Bond Vote Newsletter.  The bond referendum was approved on October 9, 2012, 698-394.

If you would like more information about the project, please contact Suzanne Johnson, library director, at 924-6400, ext. 275.
